    STARTING HOURLY RATE: $21.38 - $22.36 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD AND EDUCATION)

    DEFINITION:


    The Transportation Safety Trainer is responsible for training school bus drivers and promoting safety on school buses. This position also, maintains driver and attendant files and ensures that they are in compliance with state and federal regulations as well as trains attendants and drivers in safety procedures, DMV rules, and DPS rules and regulations. The Transportation Safety Trainer will also assist with dispatching and routing duties. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Provides assistance to the Director of Transportation and the District to attain either immediate or long range goals and objectives.
    2. Conducts classroom and behind the wheel training for bus drivers in order to obtain and maintain Commercial Driver’s Licenses and Bus Certification.
    3. Maintains required documentation for audit in compliance with state certification, which must meet all District /state/federal requirements and prepares required reports.
    4. Identifies training requirements for new drivers and prepares classroom materials and packets for training.
    5. Provides instruction related to school bus regulations/safety procedures and behind the wheel training on a regular basis.
    6. Documents knowledge and skills of drivers.
    7. Assists with dispatching and routing duties in the dispatch office.
    8. Communicate with parents/guardians, administrators, campus staff, transportation staff and organizations to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of students.
    9. Drives school bus/vehicle routes periodically, when needed.


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. High school diploma or GED.
    2. Possess a valid CDL class “B” with “P”, “S” and “Air Brakes” endorsements.
    3. Possess a valid IV Fingerprint Clearance Card.
    4. Prior experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: working with students who require specialized transportation, dispatching school buses/vans, supervising others or previous safety and training experience.
    5. Possess a valid Arizona Bus Driver Certificate.
    6. Possess and maintain current First-Aid and CPR certificates.
    7. Ability to interact and relate to students who require specialized transportation.
    8. Five years of bus driver experience or any combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential duties of the job, with a minimum of three (3) years bus driving experience.
    9. Possess valid Arizona Bus Driver Classroom and Behind the Wheel Trainer Certificate. Possess or the ability to obtain Third Party Tester Certificate.
    10. Able to speak, read, write and understand English.
