Summary:   The Payroll Manager oversees a team of payroll specialists by directing and supporting the team to collect, calculate and enter data error-free with the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.  The manager will also maintain both internal and external relationships ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately and in compliance with government regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Experience with 1,500 to 2,000 employees (U.S. and Global) with multiple companies within the corporate structure

  • Manages weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing using ADP WFN for payroll processing and E-Time for time and attendance

  • Manages the administration of payroll data verifying information in the timekeeping system and entering updates, adjustments and deductions

  • Manages and audits the payroll register and labor distribution, making appropriate adjustments and corrections prior to submission

  • Manages and maintains payroll data with a high level of integrity and confidentiality that includes severance agreements, manual checks and W2s

  • Monitors and manages government requirements including federal, state and local taxes for multi-state, multi-provincial companies

  • Ensures compliance - not limited to - tax garnishments, court orders and loan agreements

  • Understands the importance of data integrity for batch imports and uploads

  • Manages the relationship with ADP to provide collective, interactive and time-sensitive driving results

  • Manages the customer experience - payroll inquiries by quoting policy, procedure and resolution

  • Manages the administration of HRIS systems, technical processes, audits, account reconciliations, reporting and analytics

  • Manages a positive working relationship with internal and external customers

  • Partners with human resources, benefits, accounting and finance with collaboration, problem-solving, reporting and analytics - meeting requested deadlines

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, CPP or FPC preferred

  • Minimum of 7 years of Payroll and HRIS administration experience required – ADP WFN and E-Time preferred

  • Team player with experience in a position with a high degree of interpersonal interaction over email, phone and in person

  • Meticulous about the details, results-oriented, works efficiently using prioritization techniques; is careful and accurate

  • Decision-maker, customer-focused, problem-solver, sense of urgency, able to prioritize and quotes policy and procedures

  • Manages a team of 2-3 payroll specialists, delegates tasks, manages process, implements process improvement, time management

  • Mature, strong personal integrity, do what it takes to get the job done, able to apply company values in everything you do and encourage behavior in others

  • Proficient in MS Office suite including intermediate Excel for reporting and analytics

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Communication Skills:  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Ability to communicate with employees and managers regarding stressful situations and to resolve errors, issues and employee frustrations with courtesy. Demonstrated competency in public speaking and strong interpersonal skills required. 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
