TITLE/CODE:                          Coordinator – Training

DEPARTMENT:                      Donor Collections Mobiles- Training and Quality

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting to the Training Manager, the Training Coordinator is responsible for providing training to Donor Collections’ staff on all aspects of the collection process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.  Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

·        Acts as backup Training Manager.

·        Assist Training Manager in determining training objectives and strategies.

·        Demonstrates knowledge of best practices in training concepts and procedures.

·        Following prepared curricula, conducts training classes both in the classroom and in actual donor collections’ settings.

·        Recommends design and format of training materials and assists in the preparation of same as needed.

·        Oversees preparation of materials for educational activities and employee training, including in-services, SOP materials and test materials.

·        Explore new ideas in training workflows in visionary concepts to promote dynamic learning options in brainstorming, design sessions.

·        Present information using a variety of instructional techniques or formats, such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos or lectures.

·        Administers competency exams for trainers and prepares assessment reports on trainees.

·        Conducts assessments and reports on effectiveness of training programs. Assists in the development of curriculum as needed.

·        Assist Training Manager in coordinating trainers’ schedules as needed.

·        Evaluate training efficiency and the business impact to customers through formalized metrics.  

·        Teach at least 4 sessions (Screening, Phlebotomy and Apheresis) independently.

·        Must become competent in all trainings offered to Donor Collection staff and must serve as Training Validator.

·        Trains staff employed in the positions of Training Specialist I and II.

·        Validates that Training Specialist I and II can deliver classroom and field training in its entirety and independently.

·        Performs annual staff certification and competency assessments in CPR, First Aid and other areas as required.

·        Maintains proficient knowledge of Blood Center policies, AABB standards, FDA regulations, Standard Operating Procedures and ensures practices trained follow cGMPs and comply with all applicable regulations.

·        Responsible for managing and owning organizational communications to ensure employees have knowledge of training events and resources.

·        Must be able to effectively demonstrate the ability to use sound judgment with the ability to lead and influence training team members.

·        Communicate with internal and external customers and responds to client concerns in a timely and professional manner.

·        Provide assessment, evaluation, monitoring and support of all aspects of collection site (Mobiles/NDCs) as needed.

Attendance

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in The Blood Center’s sole discretion.

Regular Hours

Full time:  must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other days or hours per week as The Blood Center determines are necessary to meet business needs.

Overtime (applicable only to non-exempt positions)

Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as The Blood Center determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.

Weekend and Holidays

Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as The Blood Center determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Off-Site Work

Must be regularly able to work at off-site locations and to either transport self or be transported to same.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Training Coordinator supervises training staff. The Training Coordinator may also carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, scheduling and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in medical or adult education or related field plus 4 or more years of experience in medical training (phlebotomy experience a plus), 1 year experience in adult education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Basic CardioLife Support Certificate (BCLS) or CPR Certification

Donor Phlebotomy Technician (ASCP) Certification

Trainer Certification (NCCT)

Valid Texas Drivers License and acceptable driving record.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with donors so as to provide high level of customer service.  Ability to interact professionally and politely with others.  Ability to work in high pressure, fast paced environment.  Ability to resolve conflicts.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, independently.  Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Written communications skills necessary, plus exceptional interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of or familiarity with medical terminology used in connection with blood donation/collection processes.

Computer literate - Safetrace, Donor ID, Microsoft Office Applications.

Use of Audio-Visual Equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to blood and/or blood components, as well as any other biohazard materials.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but sometimes requires working at chemical plants, electrical plants, machine shops, where you may encounter chemicals, loud noises.

Job duties involved an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
