Job Description

 

Hours: 7:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

OBJECTIVE:

To provide supervision and implement safety for all participants in the Possibilities program. Encourage a safe program by providing intensive support services to develop the abilities necessary to maximize participant independent functioning in a community environment. Will also redirect using positive reinforcement Non-Violent Crisis Intervention with regard to the need of appropriate participant supervision and safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. A Criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening is required.

It is preferred that the incumbent have experience with intellectual and developmental disabilities and training on handling difficult individuals as well as social skills to deter inappropriate behavior directed at or from a person with physical, emotional and/or developmental disabilities. The incumbent should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, writing and speaking clearly and concisely; demonstrate the ability to interact with various types of internal and external customers. It is also preferred that the incumbent have the ability to relate effectively to a person with disabilities, their parents, Home Host providers and guardians and be empathetic toward their needs. The Supervision and Safety Monitor must be creative in motivating participants towards maintaining appropriate behaviors and boundaries. The incumbent must possess initiative, be a self starter and be able to work with a degree of independence. The incumbent must also write clear, concise and accurate reports and submit them in a timely fashion.

The Supervision and Safety Monitor must be able to work independently and cooperatively within a team environment. The incumbent must have good physical stamina/endurance to stand for long periods of time. The incumbent will maintain acceptable work standards in all areas including attendance/punctuality and perform all other duties as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS  {Essential Functions}

Safety and Supervision of Clients

The Supervision and Safety Monitor is responsible for providing a safe and well supervised environment for all participants in the Possibilities program. The incumbent will monitor the front door, cafeteria/Town Square area, each center, locker room, bathrooms, and outdoor area looking for and correcting safety and supervision issues. The Supervision and Safety Monitor is responsible for taking appropriate action to ensure all participants are adhering to their individual supervision levels and allotted unsupervised times.   When an immediate problem is recognized, the incumbent will follow GW and CSPD Mandatory Reporting policies. The Supervision and Safety Monitor will encourage independence by assisting participants in problem solving by using accepted and innovative rehabilitation techniques and maintain a proactive environment. In addition, the incumbent will teach proper work habits, interaction skills, and self-help skills through role modeling and programmatic intervention.

Client Care

The Supervision and Safety Monitor will assist in the implementation of individualized plans by giving reinforcers, providing one-on-one assistance and/or guidance. The Supervision and Safety Monitor will be responsible for participants adhering to their participant-specific schedules, supervision levels, and protocols. The Supervision and Safety Monitor will assist in providing services to ensure safety throughout the facility and ensure individual supervision levels, Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) are met. The Supervision and Safety Monitor will be an active member of the Possibilities team and will assist team members with client care as well as communicate all pertinent information to program staff. The Supervision and Safety Monitor must also demonstrate empathy and concern for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities and have a passion for working to maximize their independence/growth.

Services Support

The Supervision and Security Monitor is responsible for providing positive support and reinforcement to case managers and staff while dealing with safety and supervision issues. In addition, the incumbent will provide support and positive reinforcement of the work rules and safety support system, acting in a proactive manner to provide the support to Possibilities participants.

Documentation, Tracking and Reporting

The incumbent will assist in effectively implementing Individual Service Plans (ISPs), Behavior Individual Service Plans (BISPs), Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) and provide care to clients. The incumbent must be able to organize and follow through with duties demonstrating the capability of handling several different and ongoing tasks. The incumbent must be neat, courteous, personable and able to communicate effectively. The incumbent must maintain a professional attitude and interact appropriately with others including community agencies and clients of varying functioning levels. The incumbent must be proficient in computer use. The incumbent will become familiar with all participant supervision levels and unsupervised time, completing all necessary documentation and submit all required reports in a timely manner.

Relationship Management

The Supervision and Security Monitor will keep the supervisor informed of progress, considerations, and pertinent information regarding participant supervision and safety. In addition, the incumbent will participate in CPI team training, CPR/First Aid, and other in-service training sessions. The incumbent will attend staff meetings and become familiar with possible behavioral situations. The incumbent will deal effectively and calmly with non-routine situations following accepted guidelines, communicate significant problems to the Supervisor and perform other duties as required by the Supervisor.
