Job Description

The City of San Leandro is seeking an experienced individual to serve as Payroll Specialist in the Finance Department.  The successful candidate will have an accomplished background in all aspects of payroll processing including:  verifying, editing, and processing payroll; identifying and resolving discrepancies; communicating payroll, MOU, and other policies and procedures to employees; and preparing quarterly reports to the IRS and State as well as retirement files and other related documents and payments to the Citys retirement system.  S/he will thrive in a very fast paced, deadline driven collaborative environment, be adept at communicating well with others, and possess a willingness to partner with Human Resources and departmental staff regarding specified human resources and/or employee relations matters including MOU provisions and related policies and procedures.  An eye for detail, a sense of teamwork and collaboration, and dedication to positive customer service are all attributes an effective candidate will possess. 

Skill / Requirements

 

Education and Experience Guidelines:  Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be an Associate of Arts degree from a community college or equivalent course work in accounting or finance, or a closely-related field and three years of recent progressively responsible technical work experience performing duties in payroll processing, bookkeeping or financial record keeping, preferably in municipal accounting operations with two years of experience in the payroll function.  Experience with Tyler Eden software is a plus.

Salary Range: $5,786-$7,031/mo. plus excellent benefits
