The Training Specialist supports the Department of the Interior’s (DOI) Office of Special Trustee for American Indians (OST). The OST is in the process of converting historical documents stored at the American Indian Records Repository (AIRR) to electronic records. The collection of documents contains materials related to Indian Trust, education and other topics received from across the United States reaching back into the 18th Century. This position develops and presents training coursework and materials to address specific learning objectives for the OST and related initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Designs, develops, and delivers training programs for all levels of staff.
Identifies future training needs and continually provides guidance to staff.
Collaborates with all areas and responsible parties related to the assigned project life cycle to ensure effective project planning, tracking and overall success (including management, development, systems, testing, training, and other related areas).
Performs administrative duties related to staff training such as scheduling classes, providing materials and a database of training material.
Provides new hire training and continuing education to improve quality and efficiency.
Coordinates training programs / schedules for a variety of timelines and personnel.
Supports training objectives using related subject matter and media.
Accurately submits all training reports as required, in a timely manner.
Acts as a subject matter expert in the technical field of instruction.
Performs administrative activities, including compiling, storing, and retrieving data for reports.
Teaches and reinforces problem solving techniques and analytical thinking as well as trains and reinforces ways to solve difficult problems.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.
Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required. Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

Skilled proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Ability to command and conduct training sessions in a classroom setting with enthusiasm and clarity
Basic and versatile knowledge of proven training methods and techniques related to subject matter
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with ability to prepare quality course materials and presentations
Exceptional skills in researching, writing, reviewing and editing technical training materials and methods
Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and execute work
Excellent skills in formatting, preparing and editing written / electronic documents with ability to use correct grammar, spelling and usage of the English language
Ability to read and interpret common information systems documents and translate into Layman’s terminology for use in course materials
Excellent interpersonal relations skills with ability to interact effectively with others in the performance of assigned duties
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
