    The Human Resources Specialist I provides support to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). The work will be administrative in nature and require working alongside BOP’s Human Resource staff in the area of processing background security clearances for the contract program.


    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Responsible for the integration of CNI Core Competencies into daily functions, including: commitment to integrity, knowledge / quality of work, supporting financial goals of the company, initiative / motivation, cooperation / relationships, problem analysis / discretion, accomplishing goals through organization, positive oral / written communication skills, leadership abilities, commitment to Affirmative Action, reliability / dependability, flexibility and ownership / accountability of actions taken.

    Assists with gathering appropriate paperwork to initiate request for reciprocity approval and following BOP internal protocols.

    Works with program managers to ensure potential contractor paperwork is complete and ready for further processing.

    Works with the Drug-free Workplace Coordinator to schedule potential contractors for urinalysis testing either on or off-site.

    Coordinates appointment with potential contractors to collect fingerprints and possibly enter information into the CAS fingerprint system.

    Must be familiar with utilizing various applications in Microsoft Suite to update reports.

    Obtains and completes request for purchase forms.

    Prepares files for final review and approval and files in accordance to internal procedures.

    Provides customer service to program managers regarding status updates and/or request for information via telephone and/or email, etc.

    Initiates, reviews, rejects and releases background investigations for contract and volunteer applicants through the Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) secure portal managed by the Office of Personnel Management.

    Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

    Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

    Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.


    Bachelor's degree preferred and a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience.

    Preferred experience in processing moderate risk security.



    Solid analytical and problem-solving skills

    Skilled proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows / Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

    Excellent verbal and written communications skills with proficiency in proofreading and editing

    Detail-oriented with solid proofreading and editing skills

    Exceptional customer service and relationship-building skills

    Ability to coordinate efforts with others to find mutually acceptable solutions for the successful achievement of goals

    Ability to organize work, set priorities and determine resource requirements

    Ability to work independently and in a team environment

    Ability to advise and assist management in accomplishing personnel management responsibilities

    Ability to function as a technical expert and make decisions independently


    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
