POLITICO is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Payroll Manager to join our team in Rosslyn, VA. The Payroll Manager is a payroll expert that will be responsible for all aspects of the payroll function. This role will report to Finance while partnering with HR to ensure success of the entire organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Process payroll every two weeks in Third Party Payroll System (UltiPro for 500+ employees)
  • Ensure accuracy in computing wages, taxes, withholdings and deductions related to payroll
  • Ensure deductions such as health care and garnishments are reconciled and being deducted from the employee's pay
  • Coordinate with HR and Finance to process non-time related payments such as bonuses, severance, vacation payouts and taxable fringe benefits as needed
  • Maintain an Excel spreadsheet of all changes to reconcile the prior pay period to the current pay period
  • Prepare upload file for 401(k) vendor to ensure posting to accounts and reconciles with HR and Finance documents
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Work with vendors payment services to ensure tax liability funding and quarterly tax filing is reconciled, investigate variances and make corrections as necessary
  • Liaison with payroll vendors on system support and processing matters
  • Work with Third Party Vendors to create and validate Quarterly and Annual Reports (W2s and 1095s) within statutory deadlines
  • Answer payroll queries from employees
  • Prepare monthly Excel spreadsheet of benefits by employee
  • Reconcile the payroll accounts and resolve payroll discrepancies
  • Work with HR and Finance to identify and implement process improvements to streamline transactions and improve controls
  • Provide support for 401(k) audit requests
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business preferred; equivalent work experience in accounting or business required
  • Three (3) or more years payroll experience preferred
  • Experience with cloud-based HRIS systems, UltiPro preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Act with integrity and maintain confidentiality at all times

  • Able to meet deadlines while maintaining high accuracy in work through keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrates initiative and urgency with reliable follow-through and execution skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
